Globalization is coming to Novato - Help stop the privatization of public wastewater

by Heidi Heffelfinger
The Novato Sanitary District Board and management are trying to privatize Novato wastewater operations. Privatization will mean loss of local control for Novato and our ratepayer funds will be sent to Europe as profit for a foreign-owned global conglomerate. The Alliance of Concerned Citizens of Novato is a community fighting back to keep our wastewater local, public, affordable, and sustainable by challenging the corporate machine. We need your help!

Alliance of Concerned Citizens of Novato (ACCNovato) is an association that has been formed by Novato residents to prevent the privatization of the operations and maintenance of our new taxpayer funded $90 million wastewater treatment facility at the Novato Sanitary District. We are an alliance of citizens, labor, and community organizers who wish to keep our Novato utilities public with local control!

STOP Privatization of Novato’s new $90 Million Wastewater Treatment Facility! In their drive to privatize and commodify water, the large conglomerate corporations that have issued bids to contract for Novato Sanitary District have, in countless other communities and countries, manipulated and bought politicians, clinched backroom deals and subverted the democratic process by trying to deny citizens a voice in fundamental decisions about their most essential public resource. We are a community fighting back to keep our wastewater local, public, affordable, and sustainable by challenging the corporate machine. Don't let the Novato Sanitary Board send our tax money to Europe as profits for a foreign-owned corportation!

ACCNovato is organizing several community meetings and showings of the movie Thirst (a documentary about privatization of water utilities). We are also examining all options to stop the district from moving forward with privatization at the current breakneck pace until they have had a fully independent review panel examine the current plan.

We need assistance all fronts. Most of us have little to no experience in running a grassroots effort. We need help in learning how to mobilize people. If you are willing and able to donate your time please contact us at info@accnovato.org.
