First and foremost no where in his article does he mention that the land we are talking about is prone to liquefaction and flooding.
Secondly, the land has radiological elements that must be mitigated by the United States Navy.
The U.S. Navy polluted the land for over 40 years.
Recently, California Senator Leland Yee and Assembly person Fiona Ma and Tom Ammiano sent a letter to the Mayor Gavin Newsom - requesting him to remove the over 1.5 million tons in and around Parcle E and E2 on Hunters Point and abate the site. Force the U.S. Navy to take some responsibility and do RIGHT by the constituents of San Francisco and humanity.
Well, Mayor Gavin Newsom backed by Nancy Pelosi, Diane Fienstein, the Rogue Developer Lennar, Supervisor Sophie Maxwell, some Black sell outs the likes of Aurelious Walker, Angelo King, and Linda Richard, and of course the Pacific Heights Mafia - want to build 10,500 home on very toxic land - most of it radiological in nature on Hunters Point Naval Shipyard.
When, I read this Op Ed that the SF Chronicle should be ashamed of itself to publish and I say this because this Conceptual Plan defies standards - there is no sound Environmental Impact Study or Report to back it. It makes no sense, in this day and age to expose INNOCENT people to radiological contaminants.
What is Lisa Jackson the Director of the Environmental Protection Agency going to do about this?
What are the California Regulator State Agencies doing about this nonsense?
What are the SF Board of Supervisors doing about this nonsense?
Why is the State of California - the Senators and Assembly person listening to Mark Leno who is doing WRONG by the people?
Where is Congress on this one.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has an Environmental Department - what are doing about this scandal? What about Health and Safety?

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District fined Lennar $515,000. This is a fact.
It is a shame that this City of Saint Francis - supposedly a City that should have compassion - chooses to look the other side and adversely impact thousands of innocent children and elders.
May be it is because they are of color? So, why are so many San Franciscans not taking Mark Leno to task for initiating a California Senate Bill 792 that will make it easy for a Rogue Developer like Lennar - to swap the State Park Land and build homes - in exchange for Open Space that is very toxic in nature and will be capped to satisfy some mundane purpose. Lacking health and safety concerns.
Senator Mark Leno wants to run for Mayor of San Francisco. No one in their right mind will vote for this man - who has been slick before but this time around - he will be exposed on the floor in Sacramento.
Senator Mark Leno should know: "once bitten twice shy" - but, he continues to challenge the constituents of Bayview Hunters Point that he is represents - but, has not held one single meeting in all the time he has been in Sacramento to listen and address their concerns.
Now, Mark Leno has the audacity to challenge Senator Leland Yee and Assembly persons Tom Ammiano and Fiona Ma that very well know that Hunters Point Naval Shipyard must be cleaned and be cleaned to Residential Standards by the United States Navy.
By initiating California Senate Bill 792 - Senator Mark Leno is encouraging the United States Navy to shirk its responsibilities and look the other way - fail, to mitigated and abate the entire Hunters Point Naval Shipyard. This is wrong and a blatant slap on the face of decent San Franciscans.
Senator Mark Leno has lied to the California Senators and Assembly persons that Hunters Point is clean. It is not. In the year 2000 over 87% of the voting population of San Francisco mandated the the entire Hunters Point Naval Shipyard should be cleaned to Residential Standards.
That has not happened. More over the many parcels at the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard still come under the jurisdiction of the United States Navy. Why has Senator Mark Leno at this critical time when the community is fighting the U.S. Navy for not doing its job - by NOT cleaning the Shipyard - why is Senator Mark Leno aiding the abetting the U.S. Navy to do wrong.
Recently, the U.S. Navy emboldened by Senator Mark Leno and others such corrupt politicians has disbanded the Restoration Advisory Board. The only community entity that can and should work with the U.S. Navy on the clean up of the Shipyard - giving Community Input.
The Hunters Point Naval Shipyard in on the Superfund List. One the worse of the worst polluted sites are placed on the Superfund Site. The Superfund Site demands - community input. The Muwekma Ohlone the First People of San Francisco - exercised its Right of First Refusal in 1991:

We know that the very corrupt John Murtha - who happens to be Nancy Pelosi's good friend and who is a "thug" - used his influence to pressure the Under Secretary of the U.S. Navy to hand over Parcel E to the City and County of San Francisco - who in turn handed it over to the SF Redevelopment Agency.
The remaining parcel on the Shipyard - B, C, D, E, F, G, and so are still under the jurisdiction on the U.S. Navy. These parcels cannot be transferred until the State and Federal Regulatory Agencies - sign on the Record of Decision.
The SF Redevelopment Agency - a dubious quasi-State agency has failed San Franciscans. And on Parcel A at Hunters Point has adversely impacted the health of thousands. Now, Senator Mark Leno wants to transfer over 900 acres to SF Redevelopment Agency through his California Senate Bill 792 - so that the SF Redevelopment Agency can turn over the land to Lennar the Rogue Developer to build 10.500 homes in the middle of Chernobyl.
