Support CA Bill to Mandate Spaying and Neutering, Save Lives - Call by June 1st

by PeTA
As you know, our nation faces a companion animal overpopulation crisis, and California—where it is estimated that nearly a half million dogs and cats must be euthanized for lack of good homes annually—is no exception. Animal control and sheltering operations cost California taxpayers approximately $250 million annually.
A life-saving piece of legislation that would help abate this crisis—Senate Bill 250, The Pet Responsibility Act—will be voted on in the full Senate between June 2 and June 5, 2009.

If it becomes law, SB 250 would prohibit any person from owning or possessing any unaltered cat or dog, unless that person obtains an unaltered dog permit or keeps unaltered cats strictly indoors.

This legislation would make California a safer place for all and save animal lives. According to one Centers for Disease Control and Prevention study, male dogs who are not neutered are almost three times more likely to attack a human being than are those who are sterilized. This bill would not just save animals’ lives; it would also save taxpayers—and the state—money.

Please help this lifesaving bill pass the senate and get one step closer to becoming law by making a quick phone call to your California Senator, politely urging him or her to vote “YES” on SB 250. Click here to find your Senator’s name and contact information.

ALL PHONE CALLS MUST BE SUBMITTED BY 5:00 P.M. MONDAY for consideration before the vote!

Also, kindly forward this message to others in California who might be willing to lend their voices to this important issue. Emails will not be helpful at this point; your call will mean the world to cats and dogs in need.

Thank you for your compassion and action for animals.
