We are bringing in the summer season with this amazing party that is 100% free to
everyone! Live Salsa band Rumbaché and free Salsa lessons!
WHAT: Oaklandish Salsa by the Lake
WHERE: Splash Pad Park
(across from the Grand Lake Theater. Because of all of the construction by
the Lake, this event has been relocated to just a few Salsa vueltecitas
(turns) away from Lake Merritt at the lovely location of the Grand Lake
Farmers' Market, across from the Grand Lake theater).
WHEN: Sunday, May 31st, 2009
TIME: 1:00-6:00 pm
If you don't know how to dance Salsa, or want to improve your moves, enjoy the FREE
Salsa dance lessons courtesy of Isaac Kos-Read. Even if you don't want to dance, come
out to enjoy the amazing band Rumbaché.
Rumbaché has established themselves as one of the hottest Bay Area salsa bands. Fusing
salsa, timba, bomba and whatever else they could find to spice up the mood, they provide
a hard hitting style of playing. And while you can hear them interpreting the classic and
contemporary Cuban and Salsa repertoire, they are not shy with their own expression.
Their fresh originals make them stand out as a voice of youth for the Bay Area's salsa
scene, and ignites enthusiasm in dancers and music connoisseurs alike.
Don't miss this free fun in the sun: the 2009 Oaklandish Salsa by the Lake!!
Oaklandish has been sponsoring and putting on free events since it began as a multi-
form public art project in 2000. These include the Liberation Drive-In, and the Radio
Regatta - coming later this summer (stay tuned). We are also known for our civic-pride
apparel line celebrating local love and original Oakland charm.
