“The Power of Strikes” is the theme of this public celebration of May Day and the 75th anniversary of the San Francisco General Strike. Two documentary videos about the militancy of the U.S. labor movement during the Great Depression, “Labor on the March” and “We Called It a Work Holiday,” will be followed with commentary by Toni Mendicino, clerical union activist at UC Berkeley, and a representative from the University Professional & Technical Employees union. Discuss what lessons can be drawn for today’s battles as workers face massive layoffs, foreclosures, pension take-aways, homelessness and lack of money for healthcare and social services.
Sponsored by the Freedom Socialist Party. A Blue Plate Special dinner will be served at 6:00pm. Donations of $3.00-$5.00 for door and $9.00 for supper are requested. Work exchanges available for low income and unemployed. Everyone welcome!
