EVENT: “TORTURE PROFESSOR” JOHN YOO TO BE KEYNOTE SPEAKER AT CALIFORNIA COLLEGE REPUBLICAN CONFERENCE

WHERE: HYATT HOTEL at Fisherman’s Wharf, San Francisco
555 North Point Street (between Bay and Beach)

WHEN: Saturday, April 25, 7:00 PM

Tonight (Saturday) the World Can’t Wait and FireJohnYoo.org will join others to confront John Yoo, one of the legal architects of U.S. torture policies, at the California College Republican Conference. This year John Yoo was temporarily spirited away from Berkeley, to “teach” (hide out) in Orange County at Chapman University – where he’s continued to be surrounded by anti-torture protest actions (see http://FireJohnYoo.org for great coverage of the news and the protests). But he is headed back to UC Berkeley Law School this fall – and TONIGHT he speaks before the state conference of the College Republicans (yes, the same David Horowitz-Bill O'Reilly-Marine Recruiters Fan Club who often counter-protest to defend torture, war and empire).

While the Obama administration just released more “torture memos” – revealing even more how the torture was justified and orchestrated, in horrendous detail, the world demands that those responsible for these crimes must be prosecuted and brought to justice. Obama is doing all he can to avoid doing the right thing: arresting and prosecuting the war criminals for torture, a crime against humanity. So this demand must even more loudly be raised by people of conscience, and this is the demand we will voice, including everywhere the war criminals go.

PROTEST TONIGHT! All are welcome. You can join an orange jumpsuit contingent. You can carry signs bearing the message: Torture is a War Crime / Prosecute the War Criminals / UC – Fire John Yoo…Join us to tell the world why you refuse to live in a torture state.

Go to http://www.worldcantwait.org to learn more, and also go to WarCriminalsWatch.org (a new project of World Can’t Wait):

“Key actors in the Bush administration must be held accountable and prosecuted for the crimes they stand accused, in the eyes of world public opinion, of having committed. Editorialists may demand action. Politicians will call for it. But only an energized and politically active public can make those prosecutions happen. They need to be publicly shamed and prevented from occupying powerful or influential positions within our society. As in other cases where authorities have gone beyond US and international law as well as the laws of decency, only a public accounting will restore lawful conduct.”
