Earth Day Comes Early to Stanford U.

by Eye on Water Issues
Raging Grannies in norte america celebrate Earth Day every year. In the San Francisco Bay Area members of the Peninsula Raging Grannies Action League marked Earth Day 2009 one day early on April 21 by joining in an action to bring better water access to Africa.

top photo: Some of the Raging Grannies joined students who marched across campus carrying buckets on their heads to demonstrate the great lengths women in Africa go to in order to supply their families with water, the most basic of needs.

Ask we did, and we had an interesting discussion, but the music began and we broke out with a little dancing. Serious discussion (World Bank, IMF, etc.) had to wait.

How Far to the Well?
tune: Michael Row the Boat Ashore

Sister, how far to the well?
It's a long way.
But we need the water now
It's a long long way

Help to carry water home
It's a long way
Help the family to survive
It's a long, long way

The way is long, the way is hard
It's a long way
It's a STRUGGLE to survive
It's a long long way
