Sandra Cantu Public Memorial

by D. Boyer
Pics from Sandra Cantu's Public memorial.
On Thursday April 16th 2009 a public memorial was held at West High School in Tracy, CA. Hundreds if not thousands attended, and hundreds if not thousands cried over the loss of their little angel. Sandra Cantu was 8 years old and had been born in 2001.
This young child was found deceased in an irrigation pond stuffed in a suitcase.

About a week later a suspect had been arrested. Melissa Huckaby, who is also a mom, will be charged with the rape and murder of Sandra Cantu. She is scheduled to appear in court again on April 24th, 2009 in Stockton, CA. There many factors that led to her arrest, one of which was the Tracy Press, the local police department, and Melissa Huckaby herself. She actually drove herself to the police station, and was placed under arrest after only 5 hours of questioning. She was a Sunday school teacher and may have some sort of on-going mental health problems, because apparently she also tried to commit suicide several days before she went to the police station. Her past legal problems only included minor theft charges.

The website, indicates there are at least 40 sex offenders in that area who have committed lewd and lascivious acts against children under 14, but none of them are female. This alone has shocked the Bay Area and maybe all of California, and this case is just beginning, so we may hear about it for a very long time. This ordeal may have also traumatized the local community in Tracy, and has some questioning WHY?

The public memorial was attended by thousands of people, and it was a very emotional experience, and many people cried including the speakers.
Speakers included Barbara Boxer, Jerry Brown, the local police chief, a family member, and the Mayor of Tracy…
I am posting this in attempt to urge all people to do their part to end crimes against children, and educate yourselves about keeping children safe.

I can't find the words to even begin to express the sadness in my heart for Sandra's family. I too held onto hope that she would be found alive and well. Now we are left to pray for her eternal peace and pray that justice will be served. Sandra's family is in my prayers and Sandra will forever be in my memory and heart. Rest in peace littel angel.
