Mendo Supervisors vote 4 to 1 Against Navy's Training & Munitions Testing Expansion
The Mendocino County of Supervisors voted 4 to 1 Against Navy's Training & Munitions Testing Expansion, according to this action alert from Rose Taylor.
Hi All:
Four Mendocino supervisors showed courage and vote 4 to 1, not to allow our beautiful northern coastal waters to be used as a testing ground for the Navy. The people of this great state support the Mendocino County Supervisors who had the courage to say no to this unnecessary waste of our resources and exposing the public and our military to these dangerous toxic munitions (including the use of depleted uranium munitions).
Please take a moment and send them your support for their courageous vote. I have supervisor John McCowen's email:
A victory for the people and that we still have public officials who have the backbone to do the right thing.
Rose
John McCowen wrote:
The Board of Supervisors adopted a comment letter today opposing the Navy's preferred alternative #2 and calling for Congressional hearings. The vote was 4-1 with Chair Pinches dissenting. We also passed a letter opposing the inclusion of Mendocino County in the new proposed five year plan for off-shore oil and gas leasing. That passed unanimously.
John McCowen.
Dear Supervisor McCowen:
Thank you for your vote saying no to allowing these beautiful northern coastal waters of ours to be used as a testing ground for the Navy. The people of this great state support the Mendocino County Supervisors who had the courage to say no to this unnecessary waste of our resources and exposure to these dangerous toxic munitions that would be discharged (including the use of depleted uranium munitions).
Sincerely,
Rose Taylor

Rose amd Dan,
What's the big deal about the possible firing of up to 7000 rounds of 20mm DU Phalanx ammunition, especially since the Navy stopped obtaining new DU rounds in 1988 since the Phalanx close-in-weapons system is not designed to shoot at armored targets and the Navy has decided that tungsten is perfectly fine to use against thin skinned sea skimming missiles. If the Supervisors were taken in by the DU, then they are basically scientifically ignorant. I could not even readily find the DU in the Navy's EIR, but people like Rose seem to have DU-seeker minds - they have been brainwashed by a bunch of people in the anti-depleted uranium crusade. Some of them are no more than pseudoscientist con artists like Leuren Moret and Doug Rokke; others are sincere but never seem to have taken any college level science and the rest are still taken in by Saddam Hussein's successful propaganda campaign from 1992. Those of you who care to learn some facts might click on the link to Message 88 or go to http://www.depletedcranium.com . I hope that some of the four Supervisors decide that they ought to learn about what they vote on before they take the vote!
