Fresno Radical Men's Discussion Night
The radical men's discussion night is open to all who identify as men/male. It's an opportunity to discuss sexism, male-ness, feelings and relationships, and of course, revolution.
In this patriarchal culture, boys and men often do not learn to develop strong friendships and relationships with the other boys and men in our lives. It is hard for many of us to open up emotionally, to express our feelings openly, and to freely explore our gender identity. Males, females, and others are shoved into binary gender categories, and this limits all of us. Men's discussion night is a safe space to open up to one another, form bonds with other men, and freely explore who we are as individuals.
Men benefit from gender privilege and power, and this is something we will discuss: how we men can struggle against sexism. At the same time, sexism hurts us all. How have other men treated us throughout our lives? While patriarchal culture gives men power and privilege, we often have roles and expectations thrust upon us that we did not choose. How have we felt confined by gender roles and expectations? How can we confront sexism and patriarchy, deconstruct gender norms, and create healthy, sustainable forms of masculinity and individuality?
These ideas are just part of a suggested framework. The discussions will be open to anything and everything. Feel free to bring friends, discussion topics, literature, vegan snacks, and anything else you can think of to make the space more comfortable and aid our discussion.
We hope to see you next time! Until then, there's lots of good reading here:
