Rehire Esther Dominguez Now!
Stop Harassing &
Firing SF Hotel Workers

The San Francisco hotel bosses are already getting ready for a strike when the contract expires on August 1. They have been firing and harassing long time workers and union members in an effort to get them out of the hotels if a strike takes place. One of the Unite-Here Local 2 members who has been recently terminated is Esther Dominguez who worked as a housekeeper at the Grand Hyatt on Union Square for over 33 years.

She was framed up and fired on fabricated charges. Last year, she defended less senior housekeepers at the hotel who had been mistreated and management did not forget her act of solidarity. She also has a union arbitration on her case but additional direct action is needed to let the hotel management know that they will be held responsible not only in an arbitration but on the streets if they seek to fire and harass hotel and restaurant workers.

The Local 2 Committee to Defend Fired Workers is calling on hotel workers and all working people to call call SF Grand Hyatt manager David Nadelman at (415)398-1234 and let him know that Esther Domingues should be rehired now!

We need to let management know that the working people of San Francisco will not allow this anti-labor management to run roughshod over worker and human rights. Housekeepers have one of the most difficult jobs in the hotel and many housekeepers are injured on the job due to the large number of rooms they must clean and also the new beds which are difficult to move.
Hotel management cannot be allowed to intimidate and terrorize workers who stand up for their rights on the job! Labor Rights Are Human Rights.

REHIRE SF GRAND HYATT HOUSEKEEPER ESTHER DOMINGUES NOW!

Wow, do any of you folks out on that picket line know the real situation with this worker? Did you know that she was the leader of the scabs when the workers went on strike in this hotel? That she continued to be a management kiss-ass, throwing parties for them? That she had a habit of tearing down flyers that the union committee posted on the bulletin board inside the hotel? That her supposed championing of low-senior workers' rights was actually an attempt to get a few of her friends the particular days off they wanted?

Hyatt management is certainly unfair and anti-union (see their current opposition to workers' attempt to organize at the Hyatt Fisherman's Wharf). And hotel room cleaners certainly are very overworked and undercompensated. But you should really think about who you pick to hold your picket lines for. It doesn't look like any of Ms. Dominguez's co-workers were out there on the picket line with y'all. There's a reason for that: they know she's a scab.

So called "unionmade" apparently agrees with management that 33 year member Esther Rodriquez should be fired. This "unionmaid" might in fact be another appointed official of Local 2. What "unionmade" did not report is that the management with a union appointed shop steward who is also in management has been harassing the hotel members and also unilaterally agreeing to an increasing workload without a vote of the members. Members must now take care of coffee in the rooms when this job was done by other departments. This was agreed to by the appointed shop steward without any vote of the members involved. Although this hotel should have 3 shop stewards to represent all the members in the hotel the union officials have allowed their only appointed management flunky shop steward to run roughshod over the members. Why is there only one shop steward at this hotel is a question that "unionmade" should explain and why is this shop steward also a management "pet".
Esther Domiguez stood up for less senior maids that were being discriminated against last year. Where was the union appointed shop steward when this was happening last year? In fact, as a direct result of her support for these maids. the hotel bosses were forced to agree to senority when determining days off for all the maids. This was something that the management and their buddy the union appointed shop steward did not like and they went after Esther Domiguez to punish her for standing up for her fellow workers.
Solidarity means fighting for all the workers and not the friends and allies of the shop steward who is also a supervisor. When was the last time there was an election for shop stewards at the Grand Hyatt is a question that "unionmaid" should ask before she slanders another fellow worker who stood up for her brothers and sisters on the job. That was why she was fired after 33 years. It was not for her work but for her stand for justice for her fellow workers. You should get the facts before you slander Local 2 members.
The union has filed a grievance and there will be an arbitration. Would the union do this if she did not have a case? Obviously this management flunkie doesn't like rank and file members who are ready to stand up and fight even if it means fighting against nepotism and hand picked stewards in your own union.
