This is a benefit for the first public radio station in the U.S., founded by pacifists in 1949 to provide broadcasting free of commercials and government constraints. Our mission was and still is to support peace and social justice, to defend democratic ideals, to encourage cultural diversity, to promote freedom of the press and to maintain independent funding. Thank you for being part of this visionary effort, one that enables northern and central California to retain so much of the progressive
atmosphere we share and work to maintain.

Our fundraising is absolutely essential.
This event is by reservation only.
Limited seating.

$300-500 for a KPFA benefit ? That sure isn't what we were fighting for in 2000. Even if i could afford it there's no way i would kick in $500 for a couple of hours with Progressive celebs .
Instead i would urge people to give directly to Flashpoits and Gund n butter
by Mario
i would like to add that i have been informed that while the Paid staff can attend gratis the far more numerous unpaid workers are required to pay that outrageous sum if they would to check out the ''celebration '' !
This high $ benefit is wrong on all counts . First it's way too expensive for the mainly working and lower middle class audience . (Don't KPfA bosses listen to their own broadcasts about the depression we're in ? )
Secondly what sort of message does that send ? That those living in Kensington , Mill Valley and Pacifica Heights are far more valued than those listeners in the Oakland flatlands, Downtown San Jose and South Berkeley ?
This clique that run KPFA and the Local board ("Concerned Listeners'' ) have got to go !!!
We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
