Oscar Grant, Oakland City Hall

640_monrally_v3_copy_2_.jpg
Date:
Monday, March 16, 2009
Time:
5:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Event Type:
Protest
Organizer/Author:
Mike
Location Details:
This is the MOMENT. We are sick and tired of being ignored; we will no longer sit back while the police are allowed to get away with televised executions. We will not stop until we see justice. We DEMAND that Tony Peroni be fired and charged. Officer Tony Peroni was “caught on camera” striking Oscar Grant in the face numerous times for no reason. He set the tone for the execution of Oscar Grant. Officer Tony Peroni is just as guilty as Johannes Meserlie. WE WILL NOT LET HIM GET AWAY WITH WHAT HE DID!!!!!! Right now he is on “PAID ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE” AKA VACATION; LETS PUT THIS PIG WHERE HE NEEDS TO BE (BEHIND BARS)…..this event is CRUCIAL . THIS IS THE MOMENT TO TAKE A STAND! MONDAY MARCH 16TH @ 5PM OAKLAND CITY HALL.

the list of those culpable goes beyond just the two in the flier, of course, from all the other cops on the platform on up to Chief Gee, BART general manager Dugger and the Alameda DA. the cops on the platform didn't even bother to report a shooting or call for medical attention, an unspoken conspiracy to buy time for themselves to cover it up, something, at the very least

from the Chron: None of the seven officers at Fruitvale radioed that an officer-involved shooting had taken place. Supervisors sent to the Fruitvale Station initially were in the dark, while officers at stations down the line did not know to expect a train full of witnesses. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2009/01/29/BAOP15JI6F.DTL

it would be nice to get a sense of who is organizing this given that i haven't seen any other flyers or outreach going on around it. obviously i understand that the cops troll indybay and it's hard to do outreach without getting infiltrated or getting your action coopted. it's also hard for folks to commit to coming out if they have no idea who you are or what kind of work you are doing in oakland.

yes , you're right. Nice graphic, but it's not clear what is going on at city hall. Is there a city council meeting or a BART meeting of some sort, or are people assembling (and doing what?) on the steps of city hall?
by um
that is all, speakers, sound system, some hip hop performances.

we cant put to much info up. Im sure you understand why. However; this will be a rally with many speaker with raw emotion and then some. WE WILL MARCH. THESE ARE OUR STREETS!

That's fine to organize something like that. You have to understand that the potential public audience often will like to know who might be running things. It can give people an expected crowd size, know whether to bring their children along, or if there is a particular ideology of the organizer. For example, CAPE was leading a couple of the big early events and they are good at grassroots turnout. Uhuru movement has certain benefactors and detractors.
For antiwar marches, there is lots of division where you can expect tons of people bussed in to an ANSWER march, but many don't like their marxist organizers, and you expect something else out of DASW.

at "Grassroots organizing". I guess I would be too if I made 75 G's a year profiting off my community...there is a reason why they have not had anything going on since Jan and won't in the future.

care who organised it come because you are against police brutality.

i will come even if the rcp organised this, we need some unity here!
I actually know the people organizing this rally and its going to be huge. They cant give their info out due to police pressure. This is going to be the rally that gets us the justice we are seeking. January 7th was amazing; but this will be even better. Dont just worry about the "trivial details" just come out and support. The poster says it all. This rally / march is going to be about unity and taking a stand against a corrupt system. Together we can put these pig behind bars.

Fuck yeah I can't wait for this. So one is going on the 16th in Oakland and one on the 19th at the Rockridge Bart Station. I will make flyers. Everybody show up for both of these. We need you all to come and support the movement. I'll spread the word on myspace and will forward this event to everyone that I know by cell phone. I can make it there. I suggest you begin spreading the word right now to everybody you know. and start posting up flyers everywhere. I'm gonna go to down town oakland my self and post a shitload of them. Everybody start doing the same. Unite together as one. You want both of these events to be big. BE ACTIVE "DIY"!
