Migdalia Valdes: Every Day in Black and White is a poetic documentary of contemporary urban life shown through photographs, film, portraits, and sculptural journals. Ten years ago, Valdes pledged to create at least one photograph a day for the rest of her life. Her commitment allowed photography to become more than a fascination, but rather, a compulsion, allowing her to blend both city and home, creating an intimate documentary of modern life. Vacillating between the journals and the photographs found within them, Valdes transforms what we see as ordinary into something beautiful.

Simply breathtaking. The prints, books, and contact sheets were so welcoming. I loved leafing through the days and seeing inside her head. You must see this show!

I went to the opening on April 4th. It was packed with people, standing and sitting on the floor, walking around and flipping through Migdalia's journals. The set-up is amazing; it’s a review of the last 10 years of Valdes “Every Day” project. The room is beautifully arranged. The Every Day pictures surround the room as contactsheets mimicking a cityscape. The center of the room is filled with white sculptures holding the Every Day Journals that contain everything, the pictures, memories, found items and found people. The photographs are thoughtfully arranged, handcrafted and timeless depicting everyday events, everyday people, communities and the urban city landscape. Very cool, smart with a long term vision addressing visual memory and definitely obsessive!
