SF Bay Area Community Exchange Meeting
Sunday, March 1, 2009

Spud's Pizza (parlor meeting room)
3290 Adeline St (~3 blocks north of Ashby BART)
Berkeley, CA

This is the second meeting of a group of enthusiastic and talented community activists (40 strong so far) who are starting a local currency and/or bartering network in order to facilitate a more just and sustainable local economy. Give a holler if you need help with getting to the meeting. The meetings will likely alternate between SF and East Bay biweekly. If you are interested, subscribe to sfbacommunityexchange-subscribe [at] or jump on our "ning" discussion group at . Contact Heather at madredecleo [at] for more info.

Reasons for developing a local means of exchange:
-the collapsing economy and the associated rise of poverty
-better pay equity and fuller employment
-development of stronger community relations
-more environmentally sound production of goods and reduced energy use for distribution
-less money going to the government's wars
-supports local workers and withdraws support for exploitation of workers abroad
-to enjoy life more, less time working at a desk job and more time gardening, taking care of family, etc.
-reflection of community values in and community control over economic system
-greater self and community sufficiency as peak oil becomes a challenge...
