Bring signs, strollers, friends and neighbors! We're going to show PSC that the community's health is at stake, and they must stop the toxic threat! We call on PSC to operate safely while protecting the health of the community and the health and jobs of its workers.

Let's get the word out! Volunteers needed! Join us on the SW corner of Gilman and San Pablo in Berkeley (by REI) for an OUTREACH BLAST on Saturday, Feb. 14 at noon for mass outreach & flyering. If you've got even twenty minutes (or more), let's work together and get the word out. Can't make it for outreach on the 14th? You can still get involved! 1) Print out the flyers and hand them out in your neighborhood and workplace. (Click here to download. You may have to log in to your PSC-Working- Group account. Otherwise, send an email to healthyaircoalition @hotmail. com to have it sent to your account). You can also pick up a stack from the front hall at the Ecology Center at 2530 San Pablo Avenue in Berkeley. 2) Email this info to at least 5 other supportive folks Sponsored by: Healthy Air Coalition Co-sponsors: Ecology Center Environmental Justice Air Quality Coalition Global Community Monitor Greenaction for Health & Environmental Justice West Berkeley Alliance for Clean Air and Safe Jobs |
§Directions from BART
Take BART to the North Berkeley Station. Go west towards San Pablo (a major street; you can take Virginia or Francisco, for example). Take a right on San Pablo, and a left on Gilman.
Protest meets at 10th (one block west of San Pablo) and Gilman.
There are many schools, homes and day care centers near Pacific Steel, and children are especially susceptible to the pollution emitted by PSC, including particulates and toxic metals. Community monitoring in 2007 found nickel and manganese concentrations in the air around PSC up to 330 times and 10-20 times the US Environmental Protection Agency's and World Health Organization's safe level, respectively. PSC is the only possible source of these toxic metals in the area.
PSC needs to start being a good neighbor. PSC must end the toxic pollution while protecting the community's and workers' health.
It is up to Pacific Steel to make their operations safe and stop jeopardizing our health with pollution!
