EPCC SUPPORTS UTLA JANUARY 29 MASS ACTION AGAINST LAUSD AND STATE BUDGET CUTS

Los Angeles-- "No to Budget Cuts! Cuts Hurts Kids!"

Downtown Los Angeles became a sea of red and multi-colored banners,t-shirts and caps in the afternoon of January 29..

Led by the United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA),more than 5,0000 militant teachers and their allies in red t-shirts marched thorugh downtown LA and filled the Pershing Square to protest budget cuts by the California state Governor and the legislature as well as the excessive and lavish spending spree of Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD)at the expense of teachers as well as the public.

More than 3,000 teachers marched from the LAUSD main office in Beaudry/3rd St. while at least 2,000 converged at Pershing Square in downtown LA, chanting: " Money for jobs and education, Not for War and Occupation".

From Pershing Square they marched again during the evening to the Ronald Reagan Federal Building on 3rd/Spring. LA teachers protested state budget cuts that will lay-off teachers, increased and bigger classes, cuts in school staff, cut food for students and other educational amenities. All of these at the expense of students and families.

Protest Budget Cuts

At the same time LAUSD went on a spending spree on not needed structures, unwanted and cannot be used technology and fouled up even the teachers salaries.

The Echo Park Community Coalition (EPCC) support the just struggle of the teachers in LA. EPCC based in the community understand the teachers plight and vowed that they should not be made as sacrificial lambs for the mistakes of the failed state machinery and the bureaucracy of the LAUSD.

The EPCC supported the January 29 Los Angeles march action. Some of the EPCC activists marched with different contingents of the UTLA.

Every year demonstrations and rallies are held by teachers, parents, and community members but the powers that be of the LAUSD never listen. I have been a certificated teacher in the LAUSD since 1969 and every year the LAUSD does its budget cuts that hurt the school children. I think that this kind of demonstration that I will encourage has reach its time. Here is a radical approach against budget cuts so that the powers that be in the LAUSD will LISTEN.

THE STUDENTS ARE THE ONCE WHO BRING MONEY TO THE LAUSD. IF THEY DO NOT GO TO SCHOOL THE LAUSD WILL LOSE ITS 8 BILLION DOLLAR OR MORE MONEY A YEAR.

INFORM THE POWERS THAT BE OF THE LAUSD THAT YOU ARE NOT SENDING YOUR CHILDREN TO SCHOOL BUT INSTEAD WILL STAY AT HOME TO BE SUPERVISED AND TAUGHT BY QUALIFIED TEACHERS IF THEY CONTINUE WITH THE CUTS THAT HURT THE STUDENTS WHO BRING MONEY TO THE LAUSD!!!!!!!!!

AT PRESENT SCHOOLS GET REWARDS FOR EXCELLENT PUPIL ATTENDANCE. STUDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO GO TO SCHOOL EVEN IF THEY ARE NOT FEELING WELL AND THEN AFTER THEY ARE CHECK IN, IN THE ATTENDANCE FORM THEY ARE SENT HOME BY THE SCHOOL NURSE. OR WHEN A CHILD IS ABSENT THEY ARE COACHED TO SAY THEY WERE NOT FEELING WELL OR THEY WERE SICK SO THE DISTRICT WILL GET MONEY.

THE SUPERINTENDENT'S SALARY IS MORE THAN $160,000.00 A YEAR PLUS HIDDEN PERKS. CAN'T HE LIVE WITH $100,000.00 A YEAR INSTEAD OF CUTTING THE BUDGET OF THE CHILDREN WHO BRING MONEY SO THE SUPERINTENDENT WILL GET HIS INDECENT SALARY AND PERKS?

HERE ARE THE RECOMMENDED CUTS

CUT THE
SUPERINTENDENT'S SALARY
ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENTS SALARY
SALARIES OF ALL OF THOSE WHO WORK AT THE HILL AND ALL THE AREAS OF THE DISTRICT
50% CUT ON THE OFFICE SUPPLIES AT THE HILL AND ALL THE AREAS OF THE DISTRICT
50% CUT ON THE NUMBER OF CONFERENCES THE PEOPLE AT THE HILL ATTEND IN THE USA OR AROUND THE WORLD
50% CUT THE SERVICES THAT LAUSD LOCKSMITHS, COMPUTER TECHNICIANS, ELECTRICIANS, PLUMBERS, GARDENERS, BUS DRIVERS WHO DO
NOTHING WHEN STUDENTS ARE AT SCHOOLS, (GARDENERS WHO GO TO SCHOOLS ARE IN A GROUP. ONE PERSON TRIMS OR PRUNES THE TREES,
ANOTHER PERSON PICKS UP THE BRANCHES AND LEAVES, THEN ANOTHER PERSON LOADS THEM TO THE TRUCK AND A TRUCK DRIVER. ONE PERSON
CAN DO ALL OF THESE OR RATHER ELIMINATE ALL OF THEM AND GIVE THIS WORK TO THE SCHOOL PLANT MANAGER WHO HAS A LOT OF
ASSISTANTS)
50% CUT ON THE ELECTRICITY AND WATER CONSUMPTION AT THE HILL AND AT THE AREA OFFICES (IF CHILDREN IN THE SCHOOL COULD SURVIVE
WITHOUT AIR CONDITION AND LIMITED WATER IN THE CLASSROOM, PEOPLE AT THE HILL AND AREA OFFICES COULD FIND WAYS TO CUT THESE
SERVICES 50%)

YOU COULD ALSO THINK OF MORE CUTS. YES, NO PER DIEMS FOR ANY LAUSD EMPLOYEE AT THE HILL AND DISTRICT AREA ESPECIALLY THE THE LAUSD BOARD MEMBERS WHO ARE SO EXTRAVAGANT WITH THE CHILDREN'S MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!

JUST GO TO THE OFFICES AT THE HILL AND AREA OFFICES AND YOU WILL FIND A LOT PEOPLE IN THE OFFICE NOT WORKING AND YET WHEN YOU CALL THEIR OFFICES YOU HAVE TO WAIT TO 20 TO 30 MINUTES BEFORE YOU GET HUMAN BEING TO ANSWER YOUR CALL.

NO CUTS ON ALL EMPLOYEES WHO WORK IN THE SCHOOL PLANT BECAUSE THIS IS THE PLACE WHERE THE CHILDREN ARE WHO BRING MONEY TO THE LAUSD ARE TAUGHT AND LEARNED!!!!!!!!!!!
