Unite to Fight the Right: Up Close and Personal

by Pro-Choice Faces Anti-Choice

San Franciscans united to fight right-wingers who mostly came from elsewhere by chartered bus to our city! Churches with extremist views ferried in congregants with their anti-woman, anti-gay message.

Some pro-choice protesters got up close and personal with the so-called "pro-lifers" to respectfully explain their views, some even listened to the other side, but most chanted or sang, and in a few cases "signaled" their displeasure at having San Francisco occupied by anti-abortion fanatics.

As anti-woman's rights occupiers marched down the middle of the street, pro-rights counter protesters chanted through bullhorns and marched down the sidewalk on the ferry side of the street

Small groups gathered along the Embarcadero, creating interesting juxtapositions of signs.

Uh-oh, Grannies, watch out! here come the anti-choice zealots....

....they seemed unsure about these "Raging Grannies" they came upon. Until they heard the Grannies sing their message:

We March for Women's Lives

Tune: Battle Hymn of the Republic

We're the Raging Grannies and we're here to take a stand

To keep choice free for women all across our mighty land
We won't go back to hangers if our right to choose is banned
We march for women's lives!

Chorus:

No more dying in back alleys
We'll keep marching in these rallies

Until all women everywhere are free to have a choice

We march for women's lives

Not sure what inspired the youth group to take off so suddenly...perhaps at that moment the speakers were starting on the anti-choice grounds of Justin Herman Plaza

These two young ladies faced down the anti-choice people as they gathered, including the Catholic priest in photo above, with their sign "Ignorance Hurts Women"

...the Raging Grannies crossed Embarcadero to rejoin the marchers for choice.
