Transition Santa Cruz is hosting a series of events in January on the Future of Local Food.

** Local Food Movie Night **

We will watch the newly-released film "Good Food," documenting the inspiring rise of local organic farming in the Pacific Northwest, then hear from local farmer Darryl Wong, of Freewheelin' Farms, about how we are doing in our region with locally produced food. Plenty of time for Q and A.

** Local Food Pix and Panel **

Then we will move to a panel of local food experts including Ildi Carlisle-Cummins from CAFF, Mark Lipson from OFRF, Jim Cochran of Swanton Berry Farms, Deborah Yashar of ALBA, and Michael Olsen of Food Chain Radio. This will be an interactive evening with the discussion guided by audience questions.

Using Open Space, a meeting structure in which the participants set the agenda for a day of small group discussions, we will brainstorm together about how we will meet our food needs in the coming decades, in light of the challenges of climate change, peak oil, and a changing economy.

Day and Time: Saturday Jan. 31, 10 to 4
Place: United Methodist Church, 250 California St., Santa Cruz
