From its individualism to its entrepreneurial spirit, America has been praised and promoted as unique. British commentator Godfrey Hodgson argues that the idea of America’s exceptionalism has led to a disastrous foreign policy and a form of nationalism that has alienated it from the global community. Tracing the development of America’s self image from independence to the present era, Hodgson will discuss how American exceptionalism has been exaggerated and corrupted.
