Brown Beret public meeting 6pm

WORKSHOP 8pm: Participants will investigate ways they can experiment with writing, performance, and inspire social change through art and intuitive expression. Writing prompts will be used to free the power of voice and promote academic literacy. Participants will also be encouraged to examine both spoken and written word in articulating their own identities, hopes, and dreams. The ultimate objective is to explore language through body and word to stimulate discussion within the global perspective of arts culture and future aesthetics.

PERFORMANCE and OPEN MIC 9pm: Fascious will perform an array of poems, urban monologues and Hip Hop songs from his play entitled “Penumbra.” Performance will end on a Hip Hop cypher.

As a member of The Intangibles Spoken Word Collective and Founder of the Poetry Slam Association, Anthony Fascious Martinez has gained substantial recognition for receiving numerous awards and medals recognizing his artistic abilities. He is a writer, performer, and arts educator who utilizes Hip Hop, Spoken Word, and Theater to promote the importance of articulating identity as well as preserving culture through written form and oral discourse. Fascious was born and raised in the Bronx as a third generation Nuyorican of immigrant grandparents who moved to New York City from Puerto Rico in the 1950s. He began writing at the age of 12 and started performing as early as 14 years old. Fascious has since shared the stage with artists such as Saul Williams, M1 of Dead Prez, Rebel Diaz, Head Automatica, and Immortal Technique. His various works have enabled him to perform throughout New York, California, New Mexico, Texas, Florida, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Michigan, and Costa Rica.
