No LNG in Oregon, Yes to Clean Energy!

by Rally in Salem, OR on 1/13/09
Several coastal locations in Oregon are proposed sites for highly explosive liquified natural gas (LNG) terminals, to be brought in to port via large tankers from overseas locations. In addition to concerns about dredging being destructive to the riparian estuary ecosystems, the highly explosive properties of supercooled natural gas present risks in known seismic areas of the Cascadian subduction zone.
Don't miss this opportunity to make a real difference!

Statewide call to Action

Rally: 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Capital Steps

Meet with legislators: 1:00 to 3:30 PM (tentative times)

The Oregon Conservation Network has decided to join with us on the Capitol Steps for this Clean Energy Rally. Fifty of Oregon's leading environmental groups have joined together to set six priorities for the 2009 Oregon Legislature with a kick off day of action scheduled also for January 13th ( http://www.oregonpriorities.org/). -

One of their priorities is to Ensure New Energy Supplies are Responsible .
Liquefied natural gas (LNG) emits 20-30% more global warming pollution than domestic natural gas. LNG terminals planned for Oregon would mainly send gas to California, which has rejected LNG because of safety and environmental concerns.

We must ramp up our efforts to send a clear message to the Governor, state representatives, and the public that Oregon is UNITED Against LNG!

Transportation: Bus leaving Myrtle Creek from Ray's Food Store parking lot and Grocery Outlet in Roseburg early in the morning (time to be announced). Cost $15 per rider with some scholarships available. Reserve your seats early by mailing $15 to;

Oregon Citizens Against the Pipeline,

Azalea, OR 97410

or dropping money off at Commonwealth Garden Shoppe in Canyonville. Options from other areas for bus and carpools to be announced soon.

No bus scheduled from the Coos Bay area as of yet but if you are interested in carpooling please let me know.

Please tell your neighbors and friends! Don't miss this wonderful opportunity to experience Oregon government with everyday folks just like yourself and show how democracy can work, if we get involved. The State is listening to us, so let's give them the backing they need to move forward by showing our support.
