BVHP sub-committee on Health, Environment and Education highlights liquefaction issues.

by Francisco Da Costa
The Bayview Hunters Point - Health, Environment and Education sub-committee linked to the Bayview Hunters Point Project Area Committee (BVHP PAC) - held a Public Meeting - December 5, 2008 with due notice - and agreed that the community was not informed about the very high risk of LIQUEFACTION at Hunters Point Naval Shipyard. Even though the United States Navy has not conveyed the other Parcels except Parcel A - Lennar a Rogue Developer is already making plans to build 10,500 homes in the middle of Chernoby - that is Hunters Point Naval Shipyard.
Only Parcel A has been conveyed to the City and County of San Francisco at Hunters Point Naval Shipyard.

The other parcels B, C, D, E and F that is the Bay are yet to be cleaned before the United States Navy - can transfer the parcels to the City and County of San Francisco. The total area is about 800 acres.

The only parcel so far conveyed to City was transferred to the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency (SFRA) who is turn - signed a deal with Lennar a Rogue Company that with intent bombarded our children and elders with toxic dust.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District fined Lennar over $515,000 for over 380 Notices of Violations (NOVs).

In reality - Lennar should have been fined over $38 million - but political monsters applied pressure and the lowly scumbag that Lennar is - managed to shell out a measly $515,000 - a slap on the hand. Lennar has the blood of our children and elders on their hands.

In the year 2000 - Proposition P mandated the entire Hunters Point Naval Shipyard be cleaned to Residential Standards. Over eighty seven percent of the constituents from San Francisco - voted for Proposition P.

Nancy Pelosi and Diane Feinstein - together with Gavin Newsom simply do not want to abide with the mandate of the people. These rogue representatives are now in bed with a Rogue Company named Lennar - that has a history of building homes of toxic land.

Lennar fully understands that Hunters Point Naval Shipyard is landfill and over ninety percent of it. It also fully understands that the land is prone to Liquefaction and flooding. Ample evidence given to the authorities that be by Bay Area Conservation Development Committee (BCDC):

An important factor to garner is that Hunters Point Naval Shipyard is a toxic dump.

Depleted Uranium was first test at Hunters Point Naval Shipyard. The Final Historical Radiological Report - conducted by the United States Navy - mentions in detail how toxic the land is.

The United States Navy is being pressured to cap the land. Discouraged from doing a total clean up - less one to Residential Standards.

Over $400 million of the $600 million to far spent on the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard as been wasted. The first company to steal and waste money was International Technologies (IT).

For the last several years Tetra Tech with connections at the Federal Level have been raking in the dollars. Local companies especially trucking companies have been kept out.

A local company that specializes in Waste Removal and Disposal with rail facilities a quarter mile from the toxic Hunters Point Naval Shipyard - has been kept out of the loop. This company could easily accommodate the clean up with cheap and a more efficient removal and transfer by rail of the radiological and other contaminants.

Waste Solutions on Cargo Way - glares at the United States Navy - but the authorities that be and Tetra Tech - look the other way and have made millions. Time to factor in a high level investigation and the community will back up - such an investigation.

The liquefaction factor is well know but the BVHP Project Area Committee ignores this fact. Most of the members on the BVHP PAC are sell outs - also, ignorant and what is most disturbing arrogant. Two stand out Angelo King and Linda Richardson.

Most of the other members are Black with no representatives and no outreach to Samoans, Asians, Latinos, decent Whites, decent Blacks, Native Americans and others. A select few mostly thugs - take orders from the corrupt SF Mayor's cronies that are paid under the table by Lennar.

The current fiscal woes facing the Nation and this City will bring Mayor Gavin Newsom to his knees. A position he probably adores - gauging from the company he keeps and the Propositions he fights for.

If a Big One strikes large portions of the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard will fall into the Bay.

And when this happens - tons of very toxic dirt - mixed with Radiological elements with pollute the Bay, release radiological elements into the atmosphere, and adversely impact the whole of San Francisco and the surrounding area.

An expert was invited from the United States Geological Survey that stated that the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard is prone to Liquefaction.

We, all know this fact - but, perhaps the sub-committee on Health, Environment and Education - heard it and will learn something from the expert and the comments made by the public - at this meeting - held December 5, 2008 at 5 pm at 1800 Oakdale - the Southeast Commission Building.

Hovering about the room - was the Bayview Hunters Point Project Area Committee (BVHP PAC) chair - Angelo King a sell out - feisty, ignorant, arrogant, and a liability to the Bayview Hunters Point community.

He is a transplant from the Fillmore and has really has nothing to do with our community. Never saw the jerk attend one single community meeting prior to the year 2000.

There are maps that can be procured from the United States Geological Survey on Liquefaction. There is no doubt that soon within five years and 20 years for sure - a huge Earth Quake will hit the San Francisco area with devastating consequences.

In the year 1989 - whenthe large Earth Quake hit San Francisco and the Marina especially suffered serious consequences - large chunks of earth fell along the shoreline bordering the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard.

Lennar does not have any jurisdiction over Parcel B, C, D, E, and F. Yet, will proclaim they have control of all this water front property that is a Superfund site. Prone to the worst toxic and radiological elements.

No sound Insurance Company will back any development in this area. More because it is prone to Liquefaction and Flooding.

The Environmental Protection Agency has not done its job at Hunters Point Naval Shipyard. The Department of Toxic and Substances Control has not done its job. The San Francisco Health Department and Drs. Mitch Katz and Rajiv Bhatia have NOT done their job. The Bay Area Air Quality Management District has failed the constituents of San Francisco.

The sub-committee on Health, Environment and Education highlighted the issue of liquefaction.

The people spoke and by a unanimous show of hands - ordered the sub-committee to request the BVHP Project Area Committee - to conduct further, details studies and pay keen attention to Liquefaction.

The well attended meeting sent shills down the spine of some of the spineless members - on the sub-committee called the Health, Environment and Education and linked to the BVHP PAC. Perhaps, for the first time this sub-committee heard the voice of the people.

Another meeting is schedule to accommodate Lennar that refused to attend this meeting. So, did the representative from the SF Health Department Amy Brownell.

Liquefaction is an important factor to consider and so is Climate Change and flooding at Hunters Point Naval Shipyard.
