Join the Direct Action Task Force Against Torture!
for all or part of a three day around-the-clock
anti-torture educational event and vigil
calling for an end to torture
and the closure of the infamous School of the Americas.

Speakers include Bill Monning, Phil Butler, Hal Ginsberg, Micky Welch, and more!

Continuous vigil from noon Friday until Sunday at 1 p.m.

10 am - “Healing From Torture”, Speaker: Mary Litell
11 - Community Lunch
12 - Quaker silent meeting for worship -all welcome to join (30 minutes)
1pm - break down and cleanup of Camp Bolio site… All help welcome!

Janet Louis Wilson is Chair of the Direct Action Task Force Against Torture!,
a member of the Religious Society of Friends of the Monterey Peninsula,
and a Board member of the Monterey Peace & Justice Center.


"The Personal, Social, and Political Implications of Torture":
Phillip Butler, Ph.D., is a 1961 graduate of the United States Naval Academy
and a former light-attack, carrier pilot. In 1965 he was shot down over North Vietnam where he spent eight years as a prisoner of war.

The Reverend Gregory Scott Ward is minister of the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Monterey Peninsula

Alicia Jrapko is active in a national organization in San Francisco advocating for the freedom of five Cuban men who have been held in US prisons for over ten years because they tried to stop terrorist attacks on Cuba and her people.

Anthony Gregory, research analyst for The Independent Institute and policy advisor for the Future of Freedom Foundation

"Healing from Torture, a Capacitar's Experience" :
Mary Litell, international trainer with Capacitar International

Sue Hubbard,
a local activist, is in her third year as co-chair for the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom. Her presentation is patterned after a Bill Moyer workshop.
Sue works for the Bureau of Land Management.

James Livingston, Ph.D,
is the Clinical Services Manager for the Center for Survivors of Torture

Joyce Vandevere,
is the president of the Monterey Peace and Justice Center, a long-time activist and former chair of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, Monterey Branch, and a founding organizer of the Peace Coalition of Monterey County.
