Raging Granny Brides Against Prop 8

by Palo Alto Protest (info [at] raginggrannies.com)
Two Granny bride couples pucker up for a Mock Wedding photo op!

Members of the Raging Grannies Action League joined about 200 other demonstrators against Proposition 8 this evening at the corner of Embarcadero and El Camino Real in Palo Alto.

Photos by: R. Robertson, E. Moran and friends who got handed their cameras.

The Raging Grannies mock wedding received cheers from the crowd of protesters. As the Grannies took off to the nearby coffee shop to take advantage of the offer of free coffee for Grannies, well-wishers waved and shouted, "Happy Honeymoon!"

Lyrics to the songs they sang, accompanied by a Granny ukulele player, are below with photos.

You can hear them on this video thanks to Mitzi Trumbo at http://www.vimeo.com/2211563

Not all Grannies played bride roles. 9 Grannies attended the rally in all, 4 were brides, and the others were bundled up warm Grannies!

#1 Invalidate Prop 8!
tune: (Oh My Darlin') Clementine

Look around you, see the people
Getting married everyday
It's our right to wed a loved one
So why can't you if you're gay?

Equal rights cannot be hindered
California knows the way
Why would U-TAH intervene here
Our Supreme Court had its say

Join the Grannies and stand up now
Sing and shout it out today
Join the struggle, fight the battle
Invali-DATE Prop 8 today!

#2 Here Come the Brides (Tune: Here Comes the Bride)

Here come the Brides,
Here come the Grooms,
What does it matter,
Who marries whom???

Why should you care?
Life should be fair
And people should marry
Whomever they choose.

Gays will stand tall
When love conquers all,
And rights will be equal....
For one and for all!
