On election day, November 4, Proposition 8 passed in California. This proposition amended the California constitution to declare only "marriage between a man and a woman" would be recognized in the state-in effect reversing a May 15 California Supreme Court decision that allowed gay marriage. Now, this "Yes" vote on Proposition 8-by a margin of 52% to 48%-has effectively ended that right and, by changing the constitution itself, has made it much harder for the right to be restored. A righteous eruption of protest against Prop 8 is taking place around the country. Over 10,000 took to the streets in San Francisco on Friday night, some blocked intersections for hours. Thousands have taken to the streets in Los Angeles and throughout Southern California. Several thousand demonstrated at the Mormon headquarters in Salt Lake City. Come discuss the what the passage of the proposition means and what we can do.

This article provides an interesting overview of the historical attitude taken by authoritarian communism to gay rights.

I for one am glad to see that the "Maoists" in the RCP are revisionist enough to no longer consider queerness a bourgeois decadence.
