California Election Results Website Overloaded with Traffic
The California Secretary of State election results site at http://vote.sos.ca.gov/ is overwhelmed with visitors and has slowed to a crawl.
The California Secretary of State site at http://vote.sos.ca.gov/ is overwhelmed with visitors and has slowed to a crawl as people try to browse the election results.
In very early results, 11% of precincts reporting, Prop 8 is ahead with 55% of the vote.
As polling came to a close a few hours ago, the No on 8 campaign was reaching out to voters on the streets in such neighborhoods as San Francisco's Richmond District, where Prop 8 opponents were holding No-on-8 signs written in Chinese on street corners along Clement Street.
Shortly after McCain's concession speech this evening, people around the Bay Area have spontaneously taken to the streets to celebrate Obama's victory in the presidential race. In Berkeley, groups of people are cheering and cars are honking along University Avenue.

How long has the election been coming down the pike? How long have they at the State Government had to prepare for a historic election? Well, what do you know? They didn't prepare well enough and now the information that the world wants is being slowed due to poor preparation on the part of the bureaucracy. WHY didn't they anticipate the NEED for better IT equipment in the State Elections Office?
"Bandwidth and Network problems," was the excuse given to media outlets throughout the state who were unable to access results from the Secretary of State's FTP site. From 8 p.m. to after 11pm, the FTP site was inaccessible. Heads need to roll.
