Bay Area Youth Protest ICE in SF; Call for an Immediate End to All Raids

by ~Bradley (bradley [at] riseup.net)
On October 31st, Halloween, Bay Area youth, families and other community members gathered around the Northern California Headquarters of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at 630 Sansome in San Francisco to denounce the atrocities committed by ICE against immigrant communities, even in the so called "sanctuary cities." The demonstration included a lively funeral march, drumming and dancing by Danza Azteca, inciting speeches delivered by three Xicanas, as well as Sleeping dragons set up on two sides of the ICE building, effectively blocking the entry and exit of ICE vehicles for several hours. Demonstrators call for an immediate end to all ICE raids and to shut down all detention centers.

NO ONE IS ILLEGAL!!!

ICE is the largest investigative arm of the Department of Homeland Security, ICE or The Immigration and Customs Enforcement was formed pursuant to the Homeland Security Act of 2002 following the events of September 11, 2001. ICE is comprised of five integrated divisions, (Detention and Removal Operations, Investigations, Federal Protective Service, Intelligence and International Affairs), That Has Banded Together In This Diobalical Group to Turn America Into a POLICE STATE.

With more than 15,000 employees and an annual budget of more than $5 billion, United States Secretary of Homeland Security, and co-author of the USA PATRIOT Act Michael B. Chertoff and Assistant Secretary Julie Myers- (Head of ICE) have been criticized for not responding to human rights abuses in the numerous detention centers across the U.S. where immigrants waiting for asylum are held. Some of the abuses involve the methods used by I.C.E. agents during raids, where people are denied daily of their 4th Amendment Constitutional Rights, and/or are subjected to severe interrogation methods for lengthy periods, and being denied access to bathrooms. Others include only being allowed up to 3 showers a week; no access to fresh fruits and vegetables in these facilities; lack of medical and mental health care for detainees; and children being housed in prison beside their parents (sometimes as U.S. citizens) instead of the parents being offered ankle bracelet tracking options.

Michael Chertoff was criticized in a New York Times editorial for waiving the Endangered Species Act, the Clean Water Act, and other environmental protection legislation in a rush to construct a 700-mile fence along the Mexican border. The Times wrote: "To the long list of things the Bush administration is willing to trash in its rush to appease immigration hard-liners, you can now add dozens of important environmental laws and hundreds of thousands of acres of fragile habitat on the southern border,. . . SUCH AS endangered species, migratory birds, the bald eagle, Native American Graves and Religious Freedom." According to Some Officials' In Congress. . ."Securing the nation's borders is so important that Michael Chertoff, the homeland security secretary, must have the power to ignore any laws that stand in the way of building a border fence.
Any laws at all!

The truth is immigrants often work harder than anyone. They don’t drain the welfare pool because many of them are afraid even to apply for fear of being caught. These “illegals” are more than willing to do the dirty back breaking work yet you want someone else to wipe up after you , wash your dishes, and scrub the floors in your building. Well America can’t have it both ways! Yet They bitch about them being here. If anything WE should be the one’s complaining about the lack of equality here in the so called “Land of The Free”. Have you ever seen the movie, “A Day without a Mexican”? What we really need to witness is a day without white people! If these self proclaimed “patriots” are so gung ho American, why aren’t they over in the Middle East fighting for our country’s oil?? I say we ship those racist hypocrites off to go fight in a real war! Quite picking on a group of human beings who want nothing more than to have the same chance at our “so called” freedom. Unless your Ancestors are Indigenous to Turtle Island, you cannot rightfully claim you belong here! Every so called “American” (excluding my black brothers and sisters) should conduct an investigation into your family’s roots and find out just how your ancestor’s connived their way onto “OUR ISLAND” Maybe we, the true indigenous people of this continent should start rounding up every single “true illegal immigrant” and ship them back to wherever they came from! Oh wait, if we did that we would be arrested faster than Arnold Schwarzenegger can correctly pronounce California……I for one welcome my fellow brown brothers and sisters to “our island”. I leave you with just one question to ponder…..what would happen if all the people of color came together in solidarity, to do unto the supposed “master race” as he has done unto ALL of us??? I pray that day will come in my lifetime.
For all our children’s sake!

Sincerely, Quanah Parker Brightman Vice President of United Native Americans INC
