San Diegans to Pedal for Equality and Say NO on Prop. 8
SAN DIEGO – In an effort to bring attention to the unfairness of Proposition 8,
Cyclists for Equality, a grass-root effort comprised of professionals, teachers, students, and faith leaders will be promoting equality and social justice for all Californians by peacefully cycling throughout the city of San Diego until Election Day.
Prop. 8 is unnecessary, unfair, and goes against the grain of a democratic society for it will violate equal protection under the law. If passed, Prop. 8 will eliminate the right to marry for same-sex couples.
“Regardless of how you feel about same-sex marriage, it’s wrong to eliminate the fundamental rights of fellow Californians – and hurt our friends, neighbors, co-workers, and family members,” said Jennifer Moore a resident of Encinitas and a member of Cyclists for Equality.
It’s not the government’s place to tell couples who have been together for years whether or not they are allowed to marry. In California, we let people decide what is best for themselves – without government interference.
We invite all San Diegans in cycling for a just cause and for equality and vote NO on Prop. 8. Cyclists for Equality will conduct the following activities to ask Californians to Vote NO on 8.
· November 1: Meet at 9:30am at the Qualcomm gates for a 12-17 mile ride.
· November 2: 10:30am. We will meet at Swami's Park in Encinitas, K Street and coast Hwy 101.
