Those photos at the beginning of the video of S.I. Hayakawa...somehow they bring back the memories in a way that nothing else has.
Hayakawa should have stuck with academics. His famous book Language in Action alluded to the dangers of propaganda. However, in my mind he will always be the guy who pulled the wires out from the speakers during a rally at SF State, dramatically disrupting it, thus gaining a cult-like popularity with the right wing.
