Stand Up for Dee Allen: Pack the Courtroom November 7
On July 30, Black poet, student and activist Lamont (Dee) Allen was arrested by the SFPD and booked on trumped-up misdemeanor charges as a result of his participation in a counter-demonstration against the Minutemen -- a group whose thinly veiled white supremacist agenda should be vehemently opposed by EVERY resident of this so-called progressive city. Many of us love and respect Dee, and know him to be an upstanding and sensitive fellow of rare integrity. Yet, the San Francisco D.A.'s office, spurred primarily by the dishonest allegations of a single SFPD officer, is wasting time and public resources in bringing Dee to trial.
Dee's only "crime" is in repeatedly and unflinchingly demonstrating the courage to stand up for those who, like he, feel the brunt of this society's glaring hypocrisies and injustices on a daily basis. He needs us to stand up for him on November 7. Let's pack the court room!
