¨ Prop K is a measure that more than 12,000 San Franciscans placed on the ballot to ensure that basic human and civil rights are extended to all members of society including sex workers.
¨ Prop K would prioritize sex workers’ safety by calling on the police to vigorously enforce coercion, extortion, battery, rape and other violent crimes.
¨ Prop K will not stop the prosecution of traffickers but will protect immigrant women from being unfairly targeted.
¨ Prop K will end the criminalization of sex workers, impacting particularly women of color, who are disproportionately criminalized for crimes of poverty like prostitution and make up the majority of women in prison. Most are mothers.
¨ Prop K calls for the decriminalization of prostitution following the recommendations of the path breaking SF Task Force on Prostitution. Criminalization traps sex workers in prostitution, increases vulnerability to violence and sets sex workers apart from the rest of the community.
