Israel, Palestine and the Rule of Law: the Rights and Wrongs of the Israeli Occupation of Palestine.
With Professors John Dugard and Normal Finkelstein
Wednesday, October 15
Booth Auditorium, 7:00 pm

In July 2004, the International Court of Justice, the highest judicial body in the world gave a landmark opinion in favor of Palestine on borders, the Wall, settlements, and Jerusalem, which are all final status questions on Israel's occupation of Palestine. Come hear Professor Finkelstein and Professor Dugard discuss this landmark opinion, as well as the implications it may have for future negotiations as well as the current situation on the ground.

Prof. John Dugard is a professor of international law and has served on the World Court and until recently was Special Rapporteur on human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied by Israel since 1967. He is also considered to be the father of human rights law in South Africa.

A son of holocaust survivors, Prof. Norman Finkelstein is the author of several highly acclaimed books on the Israel-Palestine conflict such as Beyond Chutzpah. He has written on the ICJ 2004 advisory opinion extensively and on the Israeli High court's response to the opinion.

This event is brought to you by South Bay Mobilization, the Boalt Hall Committee for Human Rights, Students for Justice in Palestine, Law Students for Justice in Palestine (UC Berkeley and Hastings), the UC Berkeley Human Rights Center, Middle Eastern Children's Alliance, and more.
