Hands off our Union - Defend UHW from Andy Stern

by irlandeso
Andy Stern’s effort to put Our UHW into trusteeship puts all of our hard-earned gains at risk. It’s time to show Stern and other SEIU leaders that we will never let them take control of our union.

SEIU officials in Washington, D.C. are trying to take our union – Our UHW – away from us, the workers who have made it so strong.

SEIU President Andy Stern has called a trusteeship hearing for September 26 and 27 to try to silence our voices and put Our UHW under the control of appointed leaders from Washington D.C. It is clear that Stern is retaliating against us for fighting his attempt to move more than 65,000 of our members into a union where his hand-picked leaders were allegedly diverting more than a million dollars in dues money for personal use.

Our UHW is member-led — because we know that it is workers, not bosses in Washington D.C., who know what’s best for our families and our patients. Our UHW has won some of the best contracts in the country, organized more new workers into our union this year than the rest of SEIU combined and has won important reforms like needle-stick protection and nurse-patient ratios.

This move to strip 150, 000 Union workers of any and all say in their union's affairs affects all of labor .
One of my union leaders said that this is just a pissing match between Stern and UHW leader Salvatore Rosseliand so others shouldn't get involved
.
Bullshit !! I know little and care less about Rosseli . i've heard some bad things about him like that he put down the great movie Sicko .
if he did he was very wrong . But that has nothing to do with this struggle . All out for San Mateo !

I didn't mean to give the impression that i was attacking Sal Rosseli . When i wrote ''i care even less'' i mean that what he or any other leader of UHW has or hasn't done, right or wrong , is irrevelant to me . I just think that all Union officials should be elected, all contracts should be not only voted on by the members affected but the workers should be given adequate time to study the provisions, question their leaders and debate if necessary before voting . And NO SWEETHEART CONTRACTS !
i understand that the UHW are fighting for at least most of those democratic rights. What happens to a union like SEIU with over a million and a half members has a powerful impact on all unions , especially a union of less than a hundred thousand in the US and Canada like mine .

Has anyone seen local news coverage of any of this? I read the Mercury daily and haven't seen crap - it pisses me off that 4,000 people marching in this town would be anything other than the front page.
