Petition To
Stop Union Busting, Police Attacks &
The Lock Down At KPFA
On 8/20/2008, the management of KPFA and Pacifica called the police to arrest long time unpaid volunteer programmer Nadra Foster for “trespassing”. She was beaten and arrested and presently faces charges by the police.
Instead of actions to rectify this violent incident the entire station management is now in the process of “Locking Down” the station so it will be virtually impossible for community activists and programmers to get into their station.
This action by the management of KPFA and Pacifica is a threat not only to the staff of the station but the future of the station and network. The management has previously de-recognized the Unpaid Staff Organization UPSO and interim program director Sasha Lilley has virtually eliminated the power of the program council which allowed community imput into new programming at the station. The lack of transparency and accountability cannot be allowed to continue. We must defend our community radio station.
We support a financial boycott of the station during this upcoming fund drive of any more contribution than $25 to become a member for voting purposes. We also call for the removal of the management team that has perpetuated this dangerous crisis. Only direct action to withhold funding from this management team will help force accountability to those in control of the station and network.
