Several Bay Area organizations were contacted by the Phoenix Day Laborer Center (Casa Mazahuali) and the National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON), requesting thay organize a solidarity action in front of Wells Fargo Corporate Headquarters, in San Francisco.

Wells Fargo leases office space to the Maricopa County Sheriff, Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who has been conducting a campaign of terror against Latinos, inspiring widespread hate and racism and creating conditions for a burgeoning human rights crisis in Arizona. As one activist put it, "Arizona has become for the immigrant rights movement what Mississippi was for the Black Civil Rights Movement."

Sheriff Arpaio's actions include:
--Physically removing and driving migrants out of Phoenix.
--Charging undocumented migrants with felonies, including "co-conspiring to smuggle themselves".
--Arresting and deporting hundreds of migrants.
--Using fear and intimidation tactics against Latino residents of Maricopa County.
--Collaborating with ICE to deport migrants.
--Stopping Latino drivers without cause.
--Targeting Latino day laborers.

Many local and national organizations have converged in Phoenix and are holding long-term demonstrations in front of the Phoenix Wells Fargo Bank.

Arpaio and the Siege of the Wells Fargo Bank Building
The anti-Arpaio protests outside the Wells Fargo bank building in downtown Phoenix continue into their third week, with people from all over the country joining the fray. Organized largely by local activist Sal Reza's group PUENTE, demonstrators are demanding that Sheriff Joe be evicted from his suite of offices in the posh pad because of his immigration sweeps. Currently, the Sheriff's two floors in the building cost taxpayers well over $600K per year.

The people who support this garbage are the same people who vandalize ATM machines and destroy property not belonging to them in protest to the so called harm to the criminal migrants or so called racism of a duly elected law enforcement official. Bottom line it is the ILLEGAL part of immigration that so many Hispanic and non-Hispanic AMERICAN CITIZENS have a problem with. not anyhting against the legal ones who come and go as they are allowed. There are certain priveleges that are extended to US CITIZENS that are not extended to foreign nationals, and this is on purpose. The idea that this is somehow racist is ludicrous. if we were having this problem with another country then the immigration and law enforcement community would be focusing their energy there. People like Joe Arpaio and others are enforcing the law that they were sworn to uphold and defend. they are not racist, they are not specifically targeting one minority over another. They are targeting crime, and Immigrating to the US illegally is a CRIME. not a RIGHT.

Do us all a favor continue to peacefully protest if you want, if you are an American it is your first amendment right to do so, but DO NOT bow anything up, damage anything that isn't yours, or hurg or kill anyone to get your word out. or you become worse than the people you hate.

After 12 consecutive weeks, members of PUENTE and individuals from the community continue peacefully demonstrating outside the Wells Fargo tower at 100 W. Washington. Since September 2, our goal has been to create awareness in the community about the financial benefit the banking corporation is receiving from Maricopa County by leasing thousands of square-feet in office space to the Maricopa County Sheriff Office.

We have asked Wells Fargo -a financial institution reaching out to thousands of Latino families- to evict the sheriff and his staff from their luxurious facilities. In doing so, Wells Fargo won't be associated with Sheriff Arpaio and his blatant violations to human and civil rights.
