Old whale boat sinks in Fields Landing, spilling gas and oil!
This morning Sept 14 at around 10:30am, in the small community of King Salmon to my unpleasant surprise there was a diesel gas spill. I live 15 feet from the channel, where water flows through (in and out) of the main part of the bay here in King Salmon.
This morning Sept 14 at around 10:30am, in the small community of King
Salmon to my unpleasant surprise there was a diesel gas spill. I live 15
feet from the channel, where water flows through (in and out) of the main
part of the bay here in King Salmon. This was very upsetting, being a bird
lover. So I called the coast guard, they told me a boat had sunk in that
section of the bay, spilling some engine oil and that was the last of the
info given to me. After hanging up the phone I walked outside again,
looking out to the bay noticing small boats circling the end of the pier and
Fields Landing. Then it struck me, one of the two 85foot whale boats had
sunk in the bay! After a couple hours, two US GOV agents came to King Salmon
where I live. I asked them what happened? while they where taking pictures.
They told me the whale boat was not only leaking oil, but also disel, and
we could smell it! This was very upsetting! So to all the people that care
deeply about the bay and the creatures that live there, please please find
out if the people in charge of the cleanup are keeping any of this local
disaster hidden from the public. Some have a mistrust of the authories in
humboldt county (looking to bring in cargo ships and cruise liners!) so
please help with this investigation!
