U.S. Navy holds pubic meeting on Parcel B - residents object to total capping of Shipyard.

by Francisco Da Costa
The United States Navy held its Public Meeting linked to Parcel B and afforded the Public at Large to comment on Parcel B and its many Preferred Alternatives. The U.S. Navy is trying to fast track the capping of the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard and is being pressured by folks like Senator Diane Feinstein and other such dubious machinations. In the year 2000 - San Franciscan passed Proposition P. The Precautionary Principle is law in San Francisco and must be applied to Parcel B. Parcel B is very polluted - and the only way to abate this area - is total clean up.
Parcel B forms about 560 acres and plans are afloat in some quarters to build about 2500 homes. Never mind about Quality of Life issues.

Never mind the area has been polluted with radiological elements. That methane gas has been found in one large area and mercury has polluted another large area.

The watershed is polluted and what is most critical to note the other parcels - especially the Parcel E and E2 are very polluted and will not be cleaned for at least the next 15 years.

Bottom line the United States Navy with INTENT polluted the whole Hunters Point Naval Shipyard and has the utmost responsibility to clean up the whole Shipyard. They did this during World War II. One Atomic Bomb left Hunters Point and was instrumental in killing thousands of innocent Japanese civilians.

In the interim thousands of workers working at Hunters Point Naval Shipyard Yard have suffered from Heart trouble, Asbestosis, and other diseases - but no one has paid attention to these adverse impacts.

Parcel E and E2 must be addressed in a holistic manner and this mandates the removal of a large area one 13 acres plus area that needs immediate attention - and another 45 acres that must be mitigated and abated on a war footing.

It is time the United States Navy stop pussyfooting.

Stop listening to corrupt politicians. Stop listening to the Pacific Heights Mafia.

The presentations are good, the talk is cheap, Tectra Tech stands to make millions, and Senator Diane Feinstein is busy on the telephone calling the shots.

The Regulatory Agencies be it the Environmental Protection Agency, the Regional Water Board, the SF Health Department, Department of Toxic and Substances Control - are all bought - lock, stock, and barrel.

These Regulatory Agencies , I have mentioned above - have failed us on Parcel A and there is no doubt from what we have seen and heard they will FAIL us again, and again. Pathetic.

All the vultures paid by dubious entities were at 1800 Oakdale - listening to what was being said to report back to the authorities - that plan 2500 homes - never mind, the land is capped and surrounded by the worst pollution - much of it radiological in nature.

Thousands of Samoans, Latinos, Asians that now live in the Bayview Hunters Point and surrounding area - are NOT informed about what really is happening at Hunters Point Naval Shipyard.

When some decent constituents want to tell the truth - the SF City and County of San Francisco and Mayor Gavin Newsom - perfer to LIE. Proposition G was pushed by Gavin Newsom and Diane Feinstein - on behalf of Lennar - which is declaring bankruptcy - left, right, and center.

Lennar messed up on Parcel A and has no money. Plans are afoot to handed over the whole Shipyard to Lennar. Never mind Lennar is out of Mare Island and has declared bankruptcy. The same in Richmond, Southern California with LandSource and so on.
