Community Gathering At Oak Grove In Response To Violent and Dangerous Sunday June 22nd

BERKELEY, CA (JUNE 22, 2008) - TREE SIT UPDATE: (Press Conference, Negotiations for Medical Care, UCB-PD uncooperative with DA's office)
On Sunday June 22nd at 2:00PM, there will be a community gathering at Memorial Oak Grove (Berkeley) in response to the violent and dangerous extraction attempt. At this summer solstice event, a multi-faith coalition of community members will come together, and be encouraged to speak out why they want the grove to stay.
Preceding, at 1:30PM, there will be a press conference by members of the protest, and members of the lawyers guild.
There will also be negotiations to allow a doctor to enter the trees to see to wounds inflicted by extractors on tree sitters.
There will also be negotiations to allow members of the press access to inside the fence.
The extractors were not professional officers of the law, nor fully trained in the complicated and potentially deadly procedure of extraction.
There were many improprieties during the extraction, including the extraction itself. The school had released to the press official notice that no maneuvers would take place. And there was a press conference mere minutes before an extraction, in which the promise of no extraction was made. The university has taken to lying to the press to meet it's own means.
A side story.... there is indeed infighting between the DA's Office and the UC Berkeley Police. Possible Tom Orloff's office is afraid of falling into a series of scandals it can't escape and won't play along with certain perjuries. So the school finds itself not in full cooperation with the DA's office. In particular, there is contention in regards to the massive vault of video and photos that the school refuses to open, even if discovery requests are presented. The university is trying to find itself exempt from the California Public Records Act. More as story unfolds.
