Berkeley Marine Recruiting Center Photos From June 21st
One June 21st, several hundred pro-marine bikers and anti-war protesters gathered in the near 100 degree heat in Berkeley to wave flags and signs.
The crowd lined both sides of Shattuck near the Marine Recruitment Center. A small ground of Code Pink bicyclists circled several times as did a few bikers (one of whom drove close behind the bicyclists and continuously revved his engine). Around noon or one, the Berkeley police decided to push all anti-war protesers (and several journalists) out of the crowd of bikers directly in front of the recruitment center. Most police lined the opposite side of the street eating popsicles but a few of those who were pushing anti-war protesters mingled with the bikers and almost seemed to be part of the pro-marine group.

It wasn't 100% clear what the full message of the bikers was. Many said they hated Bush and some were likely opposed to the Iraq war. Many were veterans or perhaps family of serving soldiers and the "support the troops" and American flag waving message was definitely less pro-war than in previous years.

good pictures, i find it really amusing seeing tough-guy type standing around in the heat being bored.
and i saw a few of you biker types at the farmers market, thanks for supporting out local economy! especially through a hippie, tree hugging organization such as the ecology center
