Fighting for equal food access in Oakland

by Max Feld
Pueblo, along with Cycles of Change, is working to get fresh produce to low-income seniors in under-served areas of Oakland.

Many parts of East and West Oakland face a serious lack of access to healthy and affordable foods. Additionally, these areas have large populations of low-income seniors. To address the inequalities that arise from this situation, Pueblo has created Urban Youth Harvest. UYH employs young people, trained on bikes by Cycles of Change, to go around Oakland and harvest extra produce from donors’ backyards. Then, we take the produce and make sure it gets to seniors in need. If you have some fruit or vegetables growing, please get in touch with us.
