4 Fascist Initiatives on Cal Nov Ballot; Need to Ban June Elections

by /
With 21 weeks to go to the November presidential election, we now have 4 fascist initiatives on the November ballot which could pass as the Republicans will vote, unlike this June election, when enough Republicans stayed home and enough tenants voted to prevent the repeal of rent control that was Prop 98.
With 21 weeks to go to the November presidential election, we now have 4 fascist initiatives on the November ballot which could pass as the Republicans will vote, unlike this June election, when enough Republicans stayed home and enough tenants voted to prevent the repeal of rent control that was Prop 98.
These 4 horsemen of the apocalypse may be found on the Cal Secretary of State’s website at:
http://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/elections_j.htm#2008General

Our outstanding tenants’ campaign pushed enough workingclass voters to the polls, and enough landlord sympathizers stayed home, to defeat Prop. 98 in this very low voter turnout election of June 3, 2008, which must NEVER BE ALLOWED AGAIN as it is extremely expensive and is an invitation to vicious attacks on the workingclass as was Prop. 98. About 3.5 million people voted in a state of 28 million adults, including 13 million voters in a high voter turnout election, as the election results show at http://vote.sos.ca.gov/Returns/props/59.htm

One analyst describes an extraordinary low voter turnout, especially among Republicans, in Southern California, where 2/3 of the people in California live, demonstrating that there was no great concern about eminent domain at all. See John Wildermuth’s analysis, 6/7/08, SF Chronicle, at
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/06/07/BA9V114PH8.DTL&hw=Republican+vote&sn=006&sc=549

San Francisco managed to count 146,905 votes so far in a City with 600,000 adults, of whom 300,000 vote in a high voter turnout election.
See http://www.sfgov.org/site/elections_index.asp?id=70719

Clearly, all primary elections must be on ONE ballot and if June is not good, then March will have to be the primary ballot for all candidates and issues. Without the presidential or governor’s primary, people do not vote and disasters like Prop. 98 appear on the primary ballot.

We also cannot count on the Democrats to defeat the fascist initiatives as the Democrats have been busy welcoming the anti-abortion fascists who are not already there, have a presidential candidate who does not support gay marriage (and neither does Hillary Clinton), and are always supporting prisons and the death penalty. They may endorse opposition to some of these initiatives, but the work to defeat these initiatives must be done by the workingclass. The two parties that oppose all of these kinds of initiatives in every election are Peace & Freedom Party and the Green Party.
See http://www.peaceandfreedom.org/home/

While this writer prefers socialist candidates, Ralph Nader and Matt Gonzalez have made outstanding statements regarding the Democrat’s millionaire, warmongering, pro-death penalty candidate for president, Barack Obama, which should be read. See
1. “The Obama Craze: Count Me Out” of 2/27/08 by Matt Gonzalez

2. Twelve Issues that Matter for 2008:
http://www.votenader.org/issues/
Here they are, all opposed by Obama/Clinton and McCain but supported by Ralph Nader, Greens and socialists:
1. Adopt single payer national health insurance
2.Cut the huge, bloated, wasteful military budget
3.No to nuclear power, solar energy first
4.Aggressive crackdown on corporate crime and corporate welfare
5.Open the presidential debates
6.Adopt a carbon pollution tax
7.Reverse US policy on the Middle East
8.Impeach Bush/Cheney
9.Repeal the Taft-Hartley anti-union law
10.Adopt a Wall Street securities speculation tax
11.Put an end to ballot access obstructionism
12.Work to end corporate personhood

The initiatives are (and there will be more):

1. Anti-Abortion Initiative Constitutional Amendment 1287. Again, the anti-abortion crowd wants to promote teenage pregnancy, as exists in the backward countries of the world, with their contrived parental notification. While this has been defeated in the past, we now have a US Supreme Court that is 5 to 4 anti-abortion (Chief Justice Roberts, Justices Alito, Kennedy, Scalia Thomas are anti-abortion; Justices Breyer, Ginsburg, Souter, Stevens are pro-abortion) and has criminalized late term abortions, including criminal penalties for doctors who perform them, we cannot afford to assume that this will be defeated; there will have to an active campaign on the part of all pro-abortion candidates to defeat this latest attack on women.

2. Prison-Police State Promotion Initiative Statute 1326 (“the Runner Initiative”) (First of 2 fascist initiatives so far): The fascist state never misses an opportunity to steal our hard earned tax dollars to enrich themselves at the expensive of the lives and interests of the workingclass, even in a high voter turnout election, which this November’s election will be. This latest idiocy proposed by George C. Runner, Jr., a Republican state senator representing parts of Los Angeles, San Bernardino and Ventura Counties, and others, increases penalties for crimes, including drug crimes, instead of legalizing drugs thereby getting them off the street as there would be no market for them; eliminates bail for some prisoners, all of which will increase the cost of prisons in a state that has no money for education, health care or social services. While there is no money for this insanity, the voters are overwhelmingly property owners who make over $100,000 a year who reek with contempt for the workingclass, which is the theme of this initiative, and thus a serious campaign to defeat this fascist initiative must exist to defeat it.

3. Anti-Gay Marriage Constitutional Amendment 1298. While the California Supreme Court has legalized gay marriage, we still have an equally divided electorate as religious superstition is prevalent in this backward society, so a serious campaign to push young voters to the polls will have to be made by the supporters of gay marriage to defeat this stupidity.

4. Second Police State Constitutional Amendment 1325. This money-making for the prison industry initiative claims to fight crime with the contrived victim notification and limits parole. People who actually committed the crime of which they are accused should be put in a rehabilitation program to train them for decent paying jobs and given full and free healthcare and education, so that they are ready to go to work within 5 years or less. This means we must support the ABOLITION of prisons and the death penalty, and promote free education and health care, paid for with our tax dollars, with taxing of the rich with the progressive income tax, those who make over $200,000 a year, to fund the programs we need.
