NABET-CWA LOCAL 51 Call to Action
NABET-CWA Local 51 represents most of the employees at the public broadcast station in San Francisco, KQED, Channel 9. We have been having a dispute with them since they implemented an increase to the employees’ contribution that is twice what the management pays for healthcare. We are asking for your help to let them know that two-tier healthcare is not acceptable at our public broadcast station in the Bay Area.

Call to Action
NABET-CWA Local 51 represents most of the employees at the public broadcast station in San Francisco, KQED, Channel 9. We have been having a dispute with them since they implemented an increase to the employees’ contribution that is twice what the management pays for healthcare. We are asking for your help to let them know that two-tier healthcare is not acceptable at our public broadcast station in the Bay Area.
We are asking for help with the following:
1) Call KQED’s CEO, Jeff Clarke TODAY and let him know that two-tier healthcare is not acceptable. His direct line at (415) 553-2201. Your call will most likely go to voicemail, but that’s okay. Feel free to leave him a return phone number. Management has said that he will return every call. You can also tell him that two-tier healthcare is not okay and you will be sending your pledge dollars to the KQED Workers Support bank account that was advertised by the union in the San Francisco’s Bay Guardian this week.
2) NABET has purchased a full page ad in this weeks Bay Guardian outlining the details of the dispute and asking viewers to not respond to this weeks KQED pledge drive, but instead requests you to send your membership pledge and contribution directly to the Support KQED Workers Bank account. The contributions and membership info received will be held there until management treats their union workers equitably. The full ad and details can be viewed at the Local’s website: http://www.nabet51.org
3) Phone Call-in to “Ask KQED Night” – Friday, June 6th 8:30pm to 9:00pm. Viewers will call in and ask a question regarding KQED. We want people to ask why union workers at KQED are paying 22% more for healthcare when management only pays 11% more. Ask them why the CEO that makes $500,000 a year pays less for his healthcare than the union workers in the mailroom. We will provide the call in number as soon as it becomes available.
