The Bay Area is home to hundreds of beauty salons, most of which employ immigrant women workers from Asian Pacific Islander communities. In recent years, scientific and legislative reports have documented the negative effects of prolonged exposure to cosmetic products like nail polish and other beautifying agents. This increases health problems ranging from the frequency of miscarriage to asthma and other respiratory ailments. These reports often go unnoticed, as do API women's health issues in a society that marginalizes immigrants and women of color.
Come here what local community-based organizers under the California Healthy Nail Salon Collaborative working in
the Asian Law Caucus, National Asian Pacific American Women's Forum, and Asian Communities for Reproductive Justice are doing to mobilize workers and challenge politicians to ensure that nail salons are safe and healthy working environments for all. Event is FREE!! Food will be free as well.
Hosted by the Bay Area Coalition for Our Reproductive Rights (BACORR).
