5/31 GG Bridge MARCH AGAINST THE SPRAY
by CASS
Thu May 29 12:13:45 2008

CALIFORNIA ALLIANCE TO STOP THE SPRAY (CASS)

It's the GG Bridge March Against the Spray!

This Saturday, May 31!

Get Ready! Get Set! It's almost time to ... GGo!

This is the biggest opportunity we've had yet for opponents of the LBAM Eradication Project to show our support publicly and very visibly!

The Plan:

We'll meet marchers from the San Francisco area at the south end of the Golden Gate bridge and march together to mid-span, where we'll connect with the part of the march that begins on the Marin (north) end. Both contingents will turn around and head back to their starting points, modeling for the CDFA and USDA that IT IS POSSIBLE TO CHANGE DIRECTION! Then both groups will gather at Crissy Field in San Francisco for a noontime rally.

The Details:

Please note: This permitted march is a rare event for the Golden Gate Bridge. The rules about what we are and are not allowed to do are very specific and apply to all marchers, not just the organizers. According to StopTheSprayMarin, they are: We may only carry a total of 50 handheld signs, but we can pin signs to clothing. No flags, banners or balloons. Drums are limited, single file for walkers, etc. We will make quite a statement and hopefully pick up national press coverage on this one.
You can read the whole permit if you wish (page 1, page 2).

Carpools will leave from the Santa Cruz County Building, 701 Ocean Street, where we have also received permission to leave some cars for the day. Come if you need a ride or can offer rides! Look for someone holding a Stop The Spray sign to guide you to the approved parking area.

Carpool from SANTA CRUZ. Meet at 7 a.m. at 701 Ocean Street at Water. map
Gather at 9 am in SF
Walk 10 am to 12 Noon
Rally nearby at 12 noon (bring your lunch)
West end of Crissy Field, between Mason Street and Marine Sanctuary Visitor Center.

For carpooling from locations other than Santa Cruz, parking info and more, check out StopTheSprayMarin's complete info.
