Bye Corporate Store!

by Anne Larsen
Disney store leaves San Francisco corner!!
Half-off signs and then yes! Store closing sign, "Everything must go!" sign! I ran into the Powell and Post Dizzy (the noise is deafening and disorienting) store and asked a worker if it was true. He said nobody at the store knows why. I asked him how much notice they gave him and he said, "four weeks." GOOD RIDDANCE I hope their employees will be OK, though.

Weird - it's difficult to get good economic data about how retail has been affected by the dip in spending due to impacts of rent and housing prices and increased costs of food. Really, it seems like many people haven't had to park their cars because they are using credit cards. Riding the bus can be pretty damn expensive too - $3.50 each way on the transbay bus. Try that with two kids going on a weekend excursion.
Pixar, locally, was bought by Disney. Disney's movies have not been very good for over a decade, and you don't see many memorable beloved recent characters entering into their repertoire at Disneyland (which I haven't visited), but at least they aren't extending control over Pixar's movies and just are running their advertising.
