Grannies Against Education Cuts!
Many, if not most, of the Raging Grannies are retired teachers, nurses, and social workers. We support teachers and nurses unions in a big way~!
Wednesday, May 14 found us scurrying around the intersection of El Camino Real and San Antonio Rd. where Mtn. View and Los Altos meet. We were part of a peninsula length demonstration against Education Budget Cuts.

I believe that as long as there are education cuts, no elected officials should be allowed to have a salary increase or bonus. It would be even better if there was a group of retired residents that could investigate state spending to determine if the state is getting the most bang for the buck. The group should also investigate government employee salaries and bonuses to assure that no one is getting more than they should.
There should also be a volunteer group determining that government employees are receiving appropriate salaries. A group making sure that our taxes are not being spent on a $2 paper clip that should only be costing $.002(not actual fact, just an example).
Also, what happened to all the tax revenues on the skyrocketting real estate sales over the past ten years. If values tripled, then so did the property tax on those houses that sold as well as all the remodelling that has been done. It sure would be interesting to see a report on California property taxes. I'm sure that in San Mateo Co alone that since 2001, property tax revenues went from $140,000,000 to $300,000,000. Where's the extra $150,000,000 going(just in San Mateo County, must be billions satewide)?
I feel as much as I could personally do is write this message. I wish there was someone that could investigate it properly at no cost to taxpayers.
