Methane Gas on Hunters Point - is a Solar Farm and Methane Gas - compatable?

by Francisco Da Costa
Thousands of tons of Methane Gas is being released on several sites at Hunters Point Naval Shipyard. San Francisco has once again chosen not to tell the public the truth. We cannot be talking about Solar Farms on the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard without mitigation and abatement measures in place. The last I heard - you cannot have a Solar Farm - surrounded by volatile methane gas in the environment.
Some City officials and some folks that are paid by Lennar are touting a proposed plan to have a Solar Farm on Hunters Point Naval Shipyard.

They say it will bring jobs - what about an explosion and what about the health of the people?

Well, Hunters Point Naval shipyard is a Superfund site.

There are several sites that are very toxic. Some of the parcels or sites have radiological elements. On some sits - methane gas is released into the air - they call them flares just so that - they may not be a serious explosion underground.

This happened in the year 2000. The EPA and other Regulatory Agencies did not reveal the adverse impacts for over a year.

What the Public is not aware off - is the rampant release of methane gas at Hunters Point that affects the whole City and County of San Francisco and beyond.

It has become fashionable to talk about the Carbon footprint.

What about a Methane footprint? What if I told you one ton of methane gas equals to about 22 tons of Carbon dioxide. Now, think about that.

The SF Health Department tries to defer such matters to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The EPA has failed this Nation and San Francisco. As the primary agency that regulates a Superfund Site - the EPA must protect and safeguard the better interests of the community.

It has not done that. In fact a recent study by the head scientist of th EPA blatantly admits that the EPA cannot do their job - because of political pressure.

The same with the Center of Disease Control (CDC).

This Agency is under investigation and as the hearings proceed - the CDC will be questioned about their statements related to Hunters Point Naval Shipyard - and Lennar's blasting of heavy metals, radiological elements, dangerous particulates , and asbestos friables. for over 4 months.

There was no Dust Monitoring Equipment and no Asbestos Monitoring Equipment in place. What has Mayor Gavin Newsom to say about this? He has been spending his time recently - pussyfooting around.

He has no time to address the issues I am deliberating - but, he has plans to close roads from the Opera House on Third Street to the Ferry Building and beyond - so that people can relax, dance, do yoga - and goof around.

Never mind the pot holes, the dirty stinking environment, the pollution, and so on - the man has lost his mind. Wants to compare the mess and stench in these areas - to Paris and what they do there.

We would like to hear what Drs. Mitch Katz and Rajiy Bhatia have to say on these issuesl linked to Methane gas.

In the mean time - decent, fair minded constituents should be educated on issues.

You may started by reading and understanding the fundamentals and then visit the Main Library and take it from there.

At Hunters Point right now - methane gas is all over the place - and it is adversely impacting all of San Francisco - is some measure.
