UC Berkeley's Secret "Terror Watch List"; School violates Cali Public Records Act

by Oaks4Peace
Despite the California Public Records Act, UC Berkeley with the aid of the DA of Alameda County keeps a secret list of names, and archive of photos and video and et cetera. The school's secret watch list contains activists not guilty of any crime, and the majority of those on the list are actually people who aren't even connected to any protest or crime or et cetera.

The Memorial Oak Grove Tree Sit has been in operation for over 500 days, and the UC Berkeley Police have been adding to their "Terror Watch List" since day one - compiling a database of names, photos, and video images.

Are you on the list?

Did you know the FBI gets to look at the list?

Yikes!

Despite the California Public Records Act, UC Berkeley with the aid of the DA of Alameda County keeps a secret list of names, and photos and video and et cetera; all people seen near the Oak Grove Tree Sit and other on campus protests. However the Tree Sit, as well as any protest within most of campus boundaries, sits next to places of study, business and residence. So most of the people the cops are looking at are just random people.

The police even randomly photograph/videotape cars and other vehicles (including bikes) parked within a two block radius of any protest site, making sure to record any license plate or other type of identification number. Again with there being a myriad of reasons to be parked by the school, the police is just compiling a watch list comprised of random people.

For instance: people who regularly visit the law building across from the Tree Sit have repeatedly asked the police to stop recording images of their vehicles. Even when catching police taking pictures in the moment, and explaining they are parked as to go to the law building, the police will continue to take pictures of a vehicle 'in question'. An average UCB officer, irate that they have been told to stop taking pictures will of course then demand the id of the car owner, and an officer's suspensions and anger cascade from there - and another person goes "on the list".

As for people related to the Tree Sit, not even their own lawyers are allowed access to the archives to help with protesters' legal defense. Again, a move which is against the law.

Alameda County DA Tom Orloff and ADA Norbie Chu are assisting UC Berkeley in letting its police force operate akin to a criminal gang.

Asides from trying to set new legal precedents that strip away rights for people with disabilities, and trying to legalize police brutality on non-violent protesters, the DA's office is assisting the UC in becoming exempt from the California Public Records Act.
