Support PVUSD Schools, Teachers and Students

by pupil
The Pajaro Valley Unified School District is poised to make DRASTIC cuts that will affect EVERY elementary school student and teacher.
* Increasing class size in kinder-third grades from 20 to 31: This change will have a huge impact on student learning at this critical age. This cut will only save $450,000 but will affect every elementary student in the district. No other SC County district is considering this cut!

* Eliminating Prep Time for 4th-6th Grade Teachers: Upper elementary teachers are responsible for standards-based lessons in Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Health, Art, PE, and Technology. The prep-time program provides 150 minutes per week for preparing lessons and grading. The Board is poised to cut this program while leaving in place DAILY prep periods for teachers in middle and high schools (250 minutes per week). We think this is unfair and unreasonable. If we want quality instruction at 4-6th grades, teachers need time to prepare!

* Eliminating prep time eliminates top-quality science and P.E. programs in area schools

* Reducing teacher pay: There are several proposals on the table that directly reduce teacher compensation. PVUSD teachers already receive lower compensation than teachers in neighboring districts. To keep the best teachers in our schools, we must maintain competitive salaries. Teachers already struggle to make ends meet here on the central coast and cannot afford a reduction in compensation.

* What you can do: Contact board members or attend the board meeting.

PROTECT PUBLIC EDUCATION
California youth's future should not be used to balance the budget. Cuts to public K-12 education are in no one's interest. An under-educated California cannot prosper.
